LEST WE FORGET 117 DINNIN, John Howard “Howie” WWII Howie was born on July 9, 1905 in Abernethy, Saskatchewan. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Military Police Guard in various postings, including Trenton, ON, and Dafoe, SK, from June 16, 1941 to October 4, 1945. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and was honourably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Indian Head Branch 114 for ten years and then transferred to the Abernethy Branch in 1967, where he served for eighteen years. Howie passed away in Abernethy, SK on May 27, 1985. DODGE, Francis Everett WWI Francis Everett Dodge was born on April 1, 1893 in Hantsport, Nova Scotia. His parents were Francis E. and Mary Dodge. He was working as a clerk in the Canadian Bank of Commerce on Franklin Street in Outlook when he enlisted in Moose Jaw on October 24, 1914, with the 28th Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment. Almost one year later, he died on October 12, 1915, in action at the Ypres salient when an enemy mortar exploded beside him in a trench. Private Dodge is buried at Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery in Belgium. DOBRANSKI, Carl WWII Carl was born in 1917 inWishart, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Canadian Army and served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders 2nd Division. He trained in Nanaimo, BC, then Dundurn and Shilo. He took his advanced training in Calgary. He served as Operator, Dispatch Rider, Brengun Carrier and Motorcycle brigade. He served on the front lines in Germany until the end of the war. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Wishart and Wynyard Branches for over forty years. Carl passed away in 2000.
