LEST WE FORGET 111 DENNIS, Robert Lawrence WWI Robert was born on October 30, 1895 in Ancaster, Ontario. He traveled west with his family in 1901 and grew up on the farm. He got a first-class certificate to teach and he taught school for two years, before enlisting with his brother in 1916 to go overseas with the 249th Battalion on the Queen Mary. His unit was the First Canadian Regiment (1st CMRs). He took intensive training in England and was shipped to France. He was wounded in the leg from bomb shrapnel. He returned to Canada and was honourably discharged and went back to teaching. Robert passed away in 1977. DENNIS, Wilfrid L. WWI Wilfrid was born in 1897 in Ancaster, Ontario. He joined the First Canadian Regiment (1st CMRs) on November 18, 1916 and went overseas with the 249th Battalion on the Queen Mary in April 1918. They were stationed at Shornecliff Camp where he took intensive training. He was shipped to France on August 21, 1918. He received head and hand wounds from shrapnel and was hospitalized before being returned to Canada for demobilization. After the war, he became a farmer. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Wawota Branch 113 for 23 years. Wilfrid passed away in 1953. DENNIS, Russel Edward WWII Russel was born on September 1, 1923 in Parkman, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942, attaining the rank of Pilot Officer. He was an Air Gunner with #630 (RAF) Squadron RCAF and was killed in action on June 10, 1944. His Lancaster Bomber was shot down over Etaples, France, with all but one crew member being killed in the crash. The lone survivor was taken prisoner. Russel is buried in Ommerville Communal Cemetery in Omerville, France. Dennis Lake in northern Saskatchewan is named in his honour.
