LEST WE FORGET 107 DEARY, Arthur Cecil WWI &WWII Arthur was born in 1890 in Galt, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on April 13, 1916 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He served with the 212th Battalion during World War I. During World War II, he enlisted with the Veterans Guard. He was stationed at Kananaskis, AB, where they guarded German prisoners. At the end of the war, he was on a ship that escorted the German prisoners back across the ocean. Arthur passed away in 1957. DEMERAIS, Louis Ray WWII Louis was born in 1907 to William and Harriet Demerais in the Coxby District, north of Brancepeth. Louis married Ethel Ballendine in 1939. He joined the RCAMC in November 1941 and took his basic training in St. Jerome, Quebec, and then Camp Borden, Ontario, and then to Regina where he remained until his discharge in 1946. He was not allowed to go overseas because of an injury to his right hand. After his discharge, he returned to farm in Coxby, later moving to Birch Hills. Louis and Ethel raised a family of thirteen children. Louis passed away in 1999. DEGELMAN (LLOYD), Elizabeth “Betty” WWII Elizabeth was born in 1926 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corp. Betty was stationed in Ontario as Private Elizabeth Lloyd and served for one year. She was discharged to civil life on demobilization. She returned to the Punnichy District where she met and married Louis Degelman of Raymore in 1946. Betty passed away in 2002.
