The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 93 EWAN, Keith McLaren WWII Keith was born on September 24, 1914 on the family farm in Munro District to John Bethune Ewan and Elizabeth Storie. He went to the Munro School for grades one to eight and grades nine to eleven were taken by correspondence. Keith drove a fuel truck during the late thirties. When the Second World War was declared in 1939, jobs were scarce so he enlisted in the Princess Pats. He ended up in a Driver and Maintenance Corps. He was sent overseas to the British Army Camp at Aldershot then Southamptonshire, England, then to the Isles of Butte, Scotland for extra training. While on R and R in Scotland, he looked up Ewan relatives. In 1940, he met Betty M. Mansell and after a six week courtship, they were married on Robbie Burns’ Day on January 25, 1941 in Northampton, England. Keith went home in September 1945 and farmed in Frobisher from 1949 to 1952. He was involved with Frobisher Wheat Pool Committee, Co-op Association, Royal Canadian Legion, Estevan Barbershoppers, served as Frobisher’s Mayor, South-East Library Board, Frobisher Community Choir, Frobisher Lions, Frobisher Happy Gang and the Frobisher Church. EYRE, John Charles RCMP John was born in Wadena, Saskatchewan in 1944. He served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police from May 25, 1967 until retiring to pension on May 31, 2001. He trained at “Depot” Division in Regina, SK and “P” Division in Penhold, Alberta. His postings included “D” Division from 1967 to 1978 – HQ Winnipeg Crime Index Section, Winnipeg Detachment, Brandon Detachment, Wasagaming Detachment, Carberry Detachment and Winnipeg Security Service; “HQ” Division in Ottawa from 1978 to 1982 – D Operations Counter Terrorism Section; “K” Division in Ottawa from 1982 to 1985 – Security Service and Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) Counter Terrorism Section; “F” Division from 1985 to 2001 – Melville Detachment, Rose Valley Detachment (Detachment Commander) and Craik Detachment (Detachment Commander). He was promoted to Corporal in 1975 and to Sergeant in 1988. John was awarded the Long Service Medal with Silver Clasp and Star, and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal. He has been a member of Legion Branch 10 in Craik, SK for 23 years. FALLIS, Cecil “Roy” WWI Roy and his brother Bert were born in 1896 in Millbrook, Ontario to William Henry Fallis who had married Caroline Ingram in Pontypool, ON on March 4, 1891. Later, the family moved to Hartney, Manitoba and farmed in that area. Four more children were born: Earl, Charlie, Fred and Vinetta. In March 1912, they moved by train to Frobisher. Later another child, Mary, was born. They rented a farm in the Vineberg School District. Roy went into the Army for the First World War and went overseas. He was a Private with the Saskatchewan Regiment – 15th Res Battalion of the C.A.S.C. After the war, he returned home. In the fall of 1920, he married a neighbour girl, Ida McCutcheon. They had one daughter. Roy passed away in March 1961 in Somme.
