The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 79 COLLOPY, Kenneth “Ken” WWII Ken was born on April 29, 1917 on the family farm north of Frobisher the sixth child of Alex and Annie. He took his schooling at Munro and attended Hemphill Engine School in Vancouver, BC and completed his course. When the Second World War broke out in 1939, Ken joined the Air Force and went overseas as a Flight Engineer. On May 1, 1942, he joined the 405 Bomber Squadron and went on a bombing mission with the Pathfinder Force on May 23, 1943 over Essen, Germany. The crew had to bail out while returning from Essen, close to the border of Holland. Two of the crew are buried there. He was taken prisoner for two years in German Prisoner of War camps making silver rings from the foil paper from cigarettes. They melted the silver paper and molded it into rings and brought them home as gifts. He was released on May 2, 1945 and was honourably discharged in September 1945 with the rank of Pilot Officer. On his return home, he married Melba in July 1945 and they had four children, Rennie Ann, Jean, Kenneth and Duane. Ken had always been an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion as chartered president in 1966 to 1967 in the Alameda Branch. He served as Zone 2 Commander for five years then as Dist Commander. Ken passed away on November 11, 1987. He had been scheduled to do the address at the Remembrance Day Service. CRAIG, Charles WWI Charles was born in Scotland on March 24, 1893. After receiving his education, he worked as a trade iron moulder. He served in the First World War. In 1923, he moved to Canada and lived in Hamilton, Ontario for one year. In 1924, he went west to Frobisher and worked as a farm hand for several years before he started a farm for himself. He sold his farm and retired in 1963. Charles was a Life Member of the Frobisher Legion Branch and a member of the Masonic Lodge. In 1967, he moved to Estevan and married Florence Taylor of Estevan. Charles passed away on August 1, 1973. CREAMER, Ernest Cecil WWII Ernest was born in Southey, Saskatchewan in 1922. He enlisted in the Navy and served on HMCS Unicorn in Canada, England and on the High Seas during the Second World War. When he returned from the war, he married Pauline Eleanor Shaffer in their hometown of Semans, SK. They later moved to Regina, SK where Cecil joined the Regina Police Force for a couple of years and then was employed with Esso for 41 years until his death. They went on to have three children: Garry, Cherlyn and Rodger. Cecil and Pauline were dedicated to their church life in Regina and Sherwood Park, Alberta when his work relocated him there in 1973 to the Esso Strathcona Refinery. Cecil also became quite an accomplished carpenter. He never spoke of the war with his children, but he did, when time allowed, watch war documentaries on TV and read books whenever possible. He was a member of Semans Legion Branch 108 for forty years. Cecil passed away in 1987.
