The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 67 BURNESS, James “Jimmie” WWII James, known to all as Jimmie, was born on August 18, 1876 in West Cairnbeg, Fordoun, Scotland to George and Jessie (Neilson) and moved to Canada in 1897. He homesteaded in the community north of Frobisher now the Munro School District. He conducted a coal business for many years, was an agent for Imperial Oil Ltd. with a modern service station. In 1912, he left that area and went to Alameda. One year later he moved to farm along the Souris River. He married Margaret Munro in 1897 but she passed away in 1915. To this union was born George, Jessie, Margaret, Jemima (Mimie), Elma, Mae, William (Bill), Florence (Tootie), and David. After serving in the Second World War, Jimmie made a TransAtlantic flight back to Scotland, the land of his birth. Jimmie passed away on November 18, 1950 in Alameda and is buried there. BURNETT, John William WWI John was born on November 8, 1885. Before enlisting in the Army in Winnipeg, he worked for a butcher in Lumsden, SK. He served with the 43rd Battalion during the First World War. He died of pneumonia on April 9, 1915 and is buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Winnipeg. BURROWS, Ivan WWI Ivan was born in Lumsden, Saskatchewan on July 31, 1896. He was a student when he enlisted in the Army in Lumsden on December 6, 1915. On November 7, 1916 he was appointed to Lance Corporal. He served with the 5th Battalion during the First World War. Ivan gave his life at Arleux-en-Gohelle on April 28, 1917 and is buried at Orchard Dump Cemetery in Arleux-en-Gohelle, France.
