The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 53 BOGARD, Peter WWII Peter enlisted in the Army and served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers during the Second World War. He was a POW in Hong Kong and was freed in August 1945. Surrender was Christmas Day 1941. Corporal Bogard was held at Sham Shui Po and North Point POW Camps. The entire unit he served with was captured and destroyed during the Battle of Hong Kong. BOUSCHARD, Alfred Dale “Ted” WWII Alfred was born on September 9, 1920 in Speers, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on March 9, 1942 and was honourable discharged on August 31, 1945 with the rank of Flight Lieutenant. He was a Rear Gunner on Lancaster Aircraft and later an instructor. He served in Canada, England, the Mediterranean, France and Germany with The Pathfinder Squadron. He made 45 operational flights and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and five additional war medals: the 1939-1945 Star, Air Force Crew Europe Star, Defence Medal, 1939-1945 Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the George IV Medal. He was a member of Drayton Valley Legion Branch 269. Alfred passed away on December 24, 2016. BOWER (KISZKAN), John William “Johnny” WWII Johnny was born on November 8, 1924 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army at the age of fifteen and eventually went overseas. He was promoted to Lance Corporal which he later refused. He served with the 2nd Canadian Division and Queens Own Cameron Highlanders during the Second World War. He received medical discharge for Rheumatoid Arthritis. He later became a Hall of Fame goaltender after playing Hockey from 1945 to 1969. He won four Stanley Cups with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Johnny passed away on December 26, 2017.
