The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 51 BLACKBURN, Reginald Vernon WWI Reginald was born in Broadstairs, England on July 25, 1886. When he enlisted in the Army he was farming as well as serving as a Lt, with the 16th Light Horse. He signed his papers on December 27, 1915 in Regina. On September 19, 1916 he was wounded when shrapnel hit his right hand causing him to lose his index finger. In October 1917 he was made Captain. He earned the Military Cross when he took command of a captured enemy line and organized the consolidation of the position while for 36 hours moving under fire assisting his men and ensuring the wounded were taken care of. On August 29, 1918 he died of wounds he received. After his death he was awarded the rank of Major as well as Distinguished Service Order. He is buried at Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension in Aubigny-en-Artois, France. BOAL, Earl William WWII Earl was born in Ceylon, SK, on January 25, 1921 to Roy and Etta Boal and raised in Regina, SK, by his Aunt, Rebecca Enid Taylor. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940, volunteering for “special work”, and was trained as navigator and weapons control officer aboard Mosquito fighter-bombers with Royal Canadian Air Force No. 418 Squadron, where he excelled in “night fighter” operations against enemy aircraft, airfields, and munition trains across Europe, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross with Bar, War Medal 1939-1945, Europe Star, 1939-1945 Star, Defence Medal, Air Crew Medal, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Earl became an engineer after the war and, in 1948; he married Pearl Anderson, sister of James Hunter Anderson. He died in Toronto, ON, on June 13, 2010. BOGARD, John KOREAN WAR John served with the Navy on HMCS Athabascan during the Korean War. He lived in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
