The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 41 BACON, Dan WWI Dan was born in England and moved to Canada from England shortly after the First World War. He enlisted and served for Canada during the 1914 to 1918 conflict. He settled in Frobisher but never acquired property of his own. Dan laboured at whatever was available. He lived in the village in whatever quarters were available. Dan worked for the town shovelling snow, opening culverts and making drains in the springtime. He lit gas lamps at the rink, ran the curfew bell every night and pumped the old organ pump organ every Sunday as well for choir practice. He was the town handyman and official gravedigger. He remained a bachelor. When he was unable to work any longer, he spent his remaining days in the St. Anthony Home in Moose Jaw where he was also buried. BALLS, William Henry WWI William was born on January 15, 1873 in Norwich, England. He served in the English Army for thirteen years with the 12th Suffolk Regiment. He farmed in Estevan, SK. He enlisted in the Army on November 23, 1915 and served with the 2nd Infantry Brigade and 5th Battalion and reached the rank of Sergeant during the First World War. He was killed in action at Vimy Ridge on April 9, 1917 and is buried at Nine Elms Military Cemetery in Thelus, France. He was awarded the Memorial Cross and the Plaque and Scroll. BARDEN, Gerald WWII Gerald served in the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He lived in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
