She married Carl Andrew Danroth, a Trooper in the Army, in England in 1945. She departed for Halifax, Nova Scotia on the Queen Mary with her son, Clifford Malcolm, and boarded a train to Demaine, Saskatchewan. ELLERT (MURRAY), Helen Keen Helen was born in Dundee, Scotland in April 1923. Once the Second World War broke out, she was sent to do “war work” in Dagenham, south of London, and worked night shift welding jerry cans. Bombings were so bad at night that everything was blacked out to avoid being seen from the air. Back in Dundee, Helen met her husband. Helen and Pete Ellert were married on April 13, 1944. In 1946, Helen boarded a Hospital Ship making her way to Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was pregnant with her first child. She landed in Halifax and took a train to Moose Jaw, SK. One of her fondest memories was the light up and down Main Street when she got off the train. Helen and Pete started their farming and family life in Valor, SK. They settled in Vantage, SK and raised nine children later moving to Assiniboia, SK to the home where they would retire. Helen’s fondest memories included time with family, fishing, and relaxing at the cottage and volunteering with the church and The Legion Auxiliary. Helen passed away in February 2012. FORD (HEMMINGS), Doreen Hilda Elisabeth Doreen was born in York, Yorkshire, England. She married Lawrence Eagleton Ford, a Flying Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, in York in 1945. She left for Halifax on Ascania on September 1, 1946. During her first night there, a neighbour asked for help with butchering a pig. It was her first education class on farm life. Being city born and bred, she had never seen a pig that size.
