The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 373 WHITFORD, Cyrus Donald WWII Cyrus joined the Army in November of 1942 and served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Canada, England, France, Belgium, and Holland. He left for England in July 1943 aboard the Queen Mary troop ship. He was wounded on October 4, 1944 on the border between Belgium and Holland. He was sent back to Canada on December 25, 1944. Cyrus passed away on February 6, 2007. WHITING, Frederick “Fred” WWII Fred was born to Harry and Jesse Murrary and his siblings were Norma, Iris, Doreen and Murray. Fred enlisted in 1939 with the Royal Canadian Air Force attached to the Royal Air Force. He met Pamela Davenport during the Second World War at a dance on New Year’s Eve in 1943 in Windsor, England. They were wed on December 13, 1944. Fred returned to France and they did not see each other for many months. They had three children: Sharon, Alan and David. After the war Fred returned to Frobisher alone but Pamela and the children followed. He resided in Oxbow. He has been involved with the Legion. He received a 60th Anniversary Award in November 2004. WHITING, Harry WWI Harry was born in Bristol, England. He moved to Canada in 1904 and worked for different people until he joined the Army in 1914. Harry married Jessie Murray on December 25, 1914 in Frobisher. He left in February 1915 to go overseas during the First World War and remained in the forces for the remainder of the war. In 1919, he returned to Frobisher to farm five miles north of the town until he retired to Frobisher in 1948. He had three daughters and two sons: Norma, Iris, Frederick, Doreen and Murray. Harry passed away on March 24, 1951, and Jessie passed away on September 23, 1976; both are buried in Frobisher Cemetery.
