The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 35 ALLAN, John WWII John was born in 1915. He enlisted in the Air Force and served with the 434 Squadron during the Second World War. John was killed in action on October 5, 1943 and is buried in the Runnymede Memorial Cemetery. ANDERSON, Carl WWII Carl was born in Wynyard, Saskatchewan in 1920. He enlisted in the Army on June 14, 1941 in Wynyard and was discharged on January 22, 1946. He served with the 15th Field Regiment and 110th Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery as a Gunner during the Second World War. He went into action two days after Dieppe. He was laying line for signals and went through France, Belgium, ended in Holland freeing the Dutch people from the Germans. He was very thankful he never had to fire his rifle to kill anyone. Carl’s brother, William Gudmundur, joined up the day after Carl. They were together until Gudmundur died from T.B. in England in 1943. It was very hard on Carl. The family visited his grave in Brookwood Cemetery in 1977. It has row upon row of white crosses and is well kept. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Wynyard, Carrot River, Smoky Burn, Langham, Wawota and Saskatoon. Carl passed away in 2003. ANDERSON, Gisella “Pearl” WWII Pearl, granddaughter of Burpee and Mary Anderson of Silton, SK, and daughter of Thomas Anderson, was born at Ninette, Manitoba on December 26, 1923, and, with her brother, James Hunter Anderson, was raised on her parents’ farm near Gibbs, SK. She enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (Women’s Division) in 1941 and served in administrative roles at various postings across Canada throughout the war, attaining the rank of Corporal. Following the war, Pearl received her nursing degree, and then married Earl Boal on December 18, 1948. Pearl worked as a home care nurse until illness overcame her. She died of cancer at age 62 in 1986 in Brampton, ON.
