The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 361 WALLS, Thomas Jr. PEACETIME Thomas was born on March 28, 1941, the eldest son of Glen and Ester Joan (Ewan) and they farmed in the Frobisher area. His siblings were Elanor Jane, Douglas Glen and Olive Marie. He received his elementary education at Mayflower and Alameda Schools and grade 12 at Oxbow. In 1961, he joined the Air Force and was trained as an air navigator. He continued this career for the next 35 years until his retirement in 1996. He married in 1963 to Maureen Markoski, formally of North Portal. They have three children: Brian, Heather and Colleen. They made their first home at Greenwood air base in Nova Scotia. He was also stationed ay Courtenay, BC – Comox Air Base and is presently living in Winnipeg. WANKEL, John Wesley WWI John was born in Fertile Township, Mountrail County, North Dakota in 1887. He enlisted in the Army and served with the 28th Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment during the First World War. John was killed in action in 1917 in Passchendaele. WARD, George WWII George was born on March 14, 1905 in Malta. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1945. He was involved in swimming, speed skating, softball, hockey, track and field, and diving. He was the founding member and the first president of the Canadian Amateur Swimming Association, Saskatchewan Section. George was the founding member of the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association and held a life membership in that organization. In 1960, George was invited by the President of the United States to sit on the Presidential Council on Youth. George was instrumental in assisting with acquiring the Canada Winter Games for Saskatchewan.
