He enlisted with the Army on November 17, 1943 and served with the Royal Canadian Engineers as a Fireman until his discharge on April 18, 1946. After the war he moved to Alberta and was married. Robert is deceased. VAWTER, Llewelyn J. WWII Llewelyn was born in Dundurn, Saskatchewan in 1914. He enlisted in the Army during the Second World War with the 13th Field Regiment. He served in France, Belgium and Holland. He also served in Europe for five years taking part in the D-Day invasion, liberation of Holland and other front line duties. Immediately after his discharge, he boarded a train to Toronto to marry his financée, Rosalind Lamming, who had spent the years waiting for his return. She worked in the munitions factory. They returned to Saskatchewan and farmed with his brother Lloyd, who also served. They raised a family of two girls, losing a son in infancy, travelling and enjoying their grandchildren in retirement years. He was a 49-year member of the Weirdale Legion Branch. Llewelyn passed away in 2003. VAWTER, Lloyd M. WWII Lloyd was born in Harris, Saskatchewan in 1909. He enlisted in the Army and was attached to the 5th Medium Regiment during the Second World War. He served in the Mediterranean region and returned home before the end of the war to help keep the family farm going as two of his siblings were also overseas, Llewelyn and Vera Vawter. He farmed with his brother until his retirement enjoying his music and his nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Weirdale Legion Branch. Lloyd passed away in 1989.
