The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 349 UNDERHILL, Alfred WWI & WWII Alfred was born on April 4, 1892 in Port Rowan, Ontario. He served with the Army overseas during First World War until his discharge in 1919. After his discharge, he married and lived in Imperial. He and his wife moved north and filed for a homestead in the Megan District, where they raised four children. He was a member of the Megan Legion. He enlisted with the Army on February 5, 1943 and served with the Veterans Guard in Canada until his discharge on September 5, 1945. They moved to Arborfield in 1948 and he joined The Legion there. Alfred passed away on January 9, 1986. VALOIS, Napoleon WWI Napoleon, his parents and five siblings moved from Massachusetts to the Arborfield, SK area in 1910. He served with the Canadian Army during the First World War. He returned home after the war and married and moved to his homestead and raised a family of eight children. Napoleon passed away on February 1, 1957. VAN IMPE, Robert “Bob” WWII Bob was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on January 13, 1922. He has had a long-standing association with the sport of softball in Saskatoon and the world. His initial involvement was as a recreational player during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Air Force, with whom he served from 1940 to 1945. After the war, he moved on to the administrative side of the sport, organizing a team in the Saskatoon Amateur Softball League and then eventually becoming the first commissioner of the Saskatoon Senior Men’s Softball League in 1965. In 1969, Bob was elected as president of the Canadian Amateur Softball Association. He served in this capacity until 1986 and his term is marked by rapid growth in the number of players to over one million, and the overseeing of the development of a national officiating program that resulted in over 2,500 umpires receiving training and guidance to improve their skills.
