The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 343 THORPE (HILL), Beatrice Amy WWII Beatrice was born in Sussex, England in November 1923. She enlisted in the Army in June 1942. She was a War Bride and arrived in Canada on July 26, 1946 with two small children. Beatrice passed away on September 15, 2013. THORPE, Patrick WWII Patrick was born on West Bend on April 19, 1923. He enlisted in the Army on September 11, 1941 and served in England during the Second World War. He was discharged on January 7, 1946 and arrived back in Canada in a body cast. Patrick passed away on February 4, 2011. TOWSTEGO, Steve KOREAN WAR Steve was born in Peterson, Saskatchewan on October 3, 1930. He was a private with the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry from 1952 to 1954. He shared his journey in two documentaries, 2001, Canada Remembers A Veteran Reunion and 2011 Canada Remembers Festival for Heroes. He talked about originally leaving Canada on a peace mission, then learned while on the boat, they were in a conflict (War) once they arrived in Korea. He faced the enemy with great courage; he said the elements were horrific, as they were wet all the time in freezing temperatures. He returned to Korea in around the year 2000 and held on to his memories all his life, suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. His close friend during the war was Harely Welsh, who was from Saskatoon, SK. Steve passed away on June 3, 2015.
