The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 337 THOMPSON, James “Scotty” WWII Scotty move to the Arborfield area of Saskatchewan in 1915. He enlisted with the Army on June 18, 1940. He served with the Regina Rifles in Canada and England until his discharge on October 20, 1945. Scotty moved to Vancouver in his later years where he passed away and is buried. THOMPSON, James William WWII James was born in 1923 in Lairg, Scotland. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in England as an Air Gunner and was then promoted to Pilot Officer of the Royal Canadian Air Force Special Section. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Whitewood Branch 87. James passed away in 1972. THOMPSON, Jim WWII Jim was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on July 30, 1923. Jim joined the Canadian Army and served overseas during the Second World War. On returning home to Canada, Jim married the love of his life, Reta May Stafford on September 28, 1944. After the war, Jim and Reta moved to Thunder Bay, ON and then to Atikokan where Jim took up employment with the Steep Rock Iron Mine as an electrician. After a few years there Jim and Reta moved to Vancouver, BC. In 1965 Jim had a dream of becoming a radio broadcaster and returned to Moose Jaw and a position opened at CHAB Radio and Television and Jim got the job. Unfortunately, in 1977 layoffs occurred so Jim applied at the Saskatchewan Technical Institute as an instructor in electricity/electrical theory, working there until he retired in 1988. Jim passed away on April 20, 2016.
