The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 333 TAYLOR, Harvey WWI Harvey was born in Dashwood, Ontario on June 23, 1897. He was drafted for service from Regina on June 15, 1918. He served in the Army with the 1st Depot Battalion Saskatchewan Regiment during the First World War. He was a member of the Frobisher Ex-Servicemen’s Association which was formed prior to the Second World War. The last meeting was January 17, 1942. TAYLOR, Neil J. “Piffles” WWI Neil was born in Collingwood, Ontario on March 29, 1895. As a member of the 1915 Regina Rugby Club Piffles, Taylor led the team to the Western Rugby Championships in 1913, 1914, and 1915. In 1916, he joined the Royal Flying Corps and became a fighter pilot. He lost an eye when he was shot down and spent a year in a German prisoner of war camp during the First World War. His brother Sam, also a pilot, was shot down and killed. In 1919, he won the coveted Hugo Ross Trophy. He served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force from 1916 to 1918. Neil became the president of the Regina Roughriders in 1934, president of the Western Interprovincial Football Union in 1937, and he was president of the Canadian Rugby Union in 1946. Following his untimely death in 1947, Park de Young in Regina became Taylor Field. Neil was inducted posthumously into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1963. TAYLOR, Percy WWI Percy was born in Norfolk, England on January 28, 1897. He moved to Canada in 1913. The First World War broke out in August 1914 and Percy enlisted on November 15 as part of the 152nd Battalion. The first winter was spent in Estevan and Shilo, Manitoba before being sent overseas to England and then to France in a great hurry. Percy was wounded at Vimy Ridge on April 9, 1916 and sent back to England for hospital care. After recovery, he transferred to the Air Force and was in this service until the war ended. He was honourably discharged in June 1919. He married Catherine Walker in 1925 and had five children. He moved to Summerland, British Columbia. Percy passed away in April 7, 1976 at the age of 79. He is buried in The Legion Plot at the Field of Honor, Canyon View Cemetery.
