She enlisted in the Air Force and served in the Women’s Division in Canada during the Second World War. She was a member of Legion Branch 63. Bessie passed away on March 16, 2017. STERLING, James Wellington WWII James was born on January 6, 1924 in Shellbrook, SK. He enlisted with the 1st Battalion, Algonquin Regiment in 1942 and served in Canada, England, Germany, Holland, France, and Belgium until his discharge in 1945. He was wounded twice and carried shrapnel embedded in his arm for the rest of his life. He received five medals: two Gold Stars - G.R.F., two Silver Medallions - (King George VI) and the German Star. He was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 42 years. James passed away on September 18, 1988. STERLING, John WWI John enlisted with the Canadian Army during the First World War. He was killed in action while serving overseas.
