The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 315 STEELE, Joseph Roy WWII Joseph was born in 1899 in Whitewood, SK. He joined the Army during the Second World War and served in England. He returned home after the war. Joseph passed away in 1979. STEEN, Erwin Albert WWII Erwin was born in 1920 in Oungre, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army as a Signalman and was a driver for Generals and others. He served during the Second World War from 1940 to 1945 in England, Italy, Belgium and Holland. He went home in 1946 and got married. He has four daughters, one died just after birth. Erwin passed away in 1975. He has been a member of the Weyburn Legion Branch for over ten years. STEINHAUER, George Henry WWII George was born on November 13, 1919 in Morse, SK. He joined the Royal Air Force Bomber Command during the Second World War. His basic training began at Brandon, continued at Kinloss, Scotland and Dishforth with Royal Air Force, by now flying the Halifax four motor bomber. George was remembered as a very big man, well over six feet tall. He died, ironically, trying to ensure supplies for Russia, the country that 40 years earlier had forced the Steinhauer family to Canada. George was killed in action in Norway on March 30, 1942.
