The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 299 SMITH, A. L. WWII A.L. Smith was born on April 1st in Windthorst, Saskatchewan, where he went to school until the war. In 1943 he joined the Air Force during the Second World War and then went back to finish his schooling in 1946. He went to Kipling and drove a truck. On November 17, 1948, he married Jean Eleanor Hawkin and lived in Kipling where Robert James and Harvey Allan were born. He worked for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in 1952. Another son was born – Bill. In June 1955, they moved to Frobisher where Terry and Lyle were born. The children received their education at Frobisher, Bienfait and Estevan. In August 1976, they moved to Langbank until August 1978. At this time they moved to Kenosee Lake and he worked in Carlyle until April 1, 1979. He retired due to health reasons. SMITH, Arthur Albert WWI Arthur was born on May 1, 1890 in Tottenham, London, England. He enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on October 11, 1917 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He served overseas with the Canadian Machine Gun Brigade as a Motorcycle Dispatch Rider. During WWII he worked with the M.C.N. Aircraft Repair in Prince Albert, SK as a draftsman and Mechanic for the War Effort. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Shellbrook Branch 111 for 53 years. Arthur passed away on December 13, 1972. SMITH, Jack “John” WWII John was born on October 5, 1919 in Yellowgrass, Saskatchewan. He moved with his parents to the Arborfield area in 1931 from Wilcox. He enlisted with the Army S.L.I. on September 29, 1940. He transferred to Lord Strathcona Horse and then to the Canadian Provost Corps and served as a Mechanic in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany until his discharge on February 7, 1946. He married in 1945 and they lived in Regina until 1973 when they returned and bought land and had a market garden. John passed away on April 19, 1977.
