The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 297 SLABICK, John J. WWII John was born in 1921 in Summerberry, SK. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as Warrant Officer 2, wireless air gunner and served in Canada. John’s aircraft went missing on a non-combat flight in Nova Scotia in 1943. SLOAN, Stanley Meritt WWII Stanley was born in 1908 in Portal, North Dakota. He moved to Canada in 1912 when he was four years old. He married Catherine Cook in 1931 and this union produced three children. He joined the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps on April 21, 1941. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was wounded in the Battle of Falaes near Cologne, France and was invalided home in November of 1944. Stan was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 44 years belonging to Hazlet 202 and Tompkins 140. Stanley passed away in 1989. SLOWSKI, Metro WWII Metro was born on February 19, 1919 in Sheho, SK. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on November 12, 1941 and served with the Army’s 46th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery in Canada until his discharge on October 23, 1944 with the rank of Gunner. He married Ann Delay and they raised one daughter. Metro passed away while on vacation on August 19, 1974.
