The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 289 SHAW, Denzil Franklin WWII Denzil was born on June 8, 1923, the third son of James (Jake) and Gladys Shaw of the Saline Creek District, north of Semans, Saskatchewan. He attended school in the Kamanatha District. At age eighteen he joined the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps and was assigned to the Calgary Tanks Corp. He served as a trooper during the Second World War. He was stationed overseas where he was killed in action in Italy on May 24, 1944. He was buried at Cassino War Cemetery in Frosinone, Italy. An island in southern Reindeer Lake had been names Shaw Island in remembrance of him. SHAW, Elmo James WWII Elmo was born on May 13, 1920 in Brantford, Ontario. He was the second son of James (Jake) and Gladys Shaw of the Saline Creek District north of Semans, Saskatchewan. He attended in the Saline Creek District. He enlisted in The South Saskatchewan Regiment and served overseas in the front lines, being wounded in action at Dieppe during the Second World War. He lived in Semans most of his life but later moved to Duncan, British Columbia where he passed away on June 8, 1974. He was a member of the Legion Branch 108. SHAW, John Norman WWII John was born on June 10, 1926 in the Saline Creek District, north of Semans, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest son of James (Jake) and Gladys Shaw. John attended school in the Kamanatha School District. He was a private in the Canadian Army during the Second World War, but was discharged due to ill health. He made his home in Semans, doing cabinet making and taught wood working at the Gordon’s Reservation. John passed away in Regina, SK on February 14, 1988.
