The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 285 SEARS, Derrell J. D. PEACETIME Derrell was born in Bienfait, Saskatchewan in 1947. He served from August 11, 1967 to January 25, 1996. He served in Canada and in Germany with the Royal Canadian Navy during Peacetime with TradeSupply Tech 911. He was promoted from Ordinary Seaman to Leading Seaman in June 1971; from Leading Seaman to Master Seaman in October 1978; from Master Seaman to Petty Officer 2nd Class in August 1987. He served at Bases CFB Esquimalt, CFB Lahr, CFB Comox, Cadet Camp Vernon and CFB Chilliwack. He also served on HMCS Qu’Appelle, Cowichan, Thunder, Kootenay and Vancouver. He was awarded the CD and Clasp and Special Service Medal. Derrell has been a member of Armstrong, British Columbia Legion Branch 35 for seventeen years. SEARS, John D. WWII John was born in Roche Percée, Saskatchewan in 1923. He enlisted in the Army and served with the 1st Canadian Airborne Regiment during the Second World War. He was a trained Infantry and Parachutist soldier. He was a qualified parachutist and Motorcyclist Class II. John was employed as Bren Gunner for approximately one month. He was a prisoner of war in Germany at Stalag B4 for eleven months from June 8, 1944 to April 25, 1945. His total service lasted 27 months, with thirteen months overseas in the United Kingdom, France and Germany. He was a member of the Bienfait Legion Branch 169 for 33 years. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-1945. John passed away in 1978. SEBULSKI, Matt WWII Matt was born in Sheho, SK. He enlisted with the Army in September of 1942 and served with the 31st Anti-Aircraft Battery, 28th Regiment in Canada until his discharge in December of 1944. He was employed as a carpenter at Mill Wright constructing Saw Mills in the Vancouver are. He married Edith Ludwig in May of 1946 and they raised a family of five children. Matt passed away in July of 1961.
