The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 261 RIOU, Casmir WWI Casmir was born in 1896 in Brittany, France. He went with his parents in 1907 to St. Laurent, Manitoba, where they fished and worked until 1911 when they moved to Star City. In 1912 they moved to Tisdale where they settled on a farm. He enlisted with the Canadian Army when the war broke out and served overseas where he was wounded. He returned home to Tisdale in 1920 and married in 1923. They raised a family of nine children. Casmir passed away on January 9, 1981. RIOU, John WWI John was born in 1895 in Brittany, France. He moved with his parents in 1907 to St. Laurent, Manitoba where they fished and worked until 1911 when they moved to Star City. In 1912 they moved to Tisdale where they settled on a farm. He served with the Canadian Army during WWI. He settled in Arborfield in 1922 and married in 1927. They raised a family of eleven children. They farmed until 1976 when they retired. John passed away in 1983. RITCHIE, Alvin “Al” WWI Alvin was born on December 12, 1890 in Midland, Ontario. He holds the distinction of being the only coach to have won national championships in the junior ranks of hockey and football. He served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force from 1917 to 1918. Al coached the senior Regina Roughriders during their fledgling years. Although successful with nine western championships, his teams never captured a Grey Cup championship. Ritchie also coached the Regina Pats Hockey Club to a 1925 Memorial Cup victory. Al was also active in baseball and lacrosse.
