The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 259 RICHARDSON, John Spencer WWI John was born in Croydon, England on October 22, 1893. Having previous military experience with the 95th Saskatchewan Rifles, John enlisted with the 46th Battalion on December 19, 1914 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He shipped overseas and was transferred to the 3rd Battalion. On May 7, 1916, he became ill with the measles, but was able to rejoin his battalion on June 15 of that year. He lost his life on September 9, 1916 after being wounded from shrapnel. He is buried at Puchevillers British Cemetery in Amiens, France. RIDDELL, William Irwin “Bill” WWI Bill was born on October 1, 1898 in Alameda, Saskatchewan. He attended school in Frobisher, Winnipeg and Regina College. When he was sixteen he enrolled in the Army as being an eighteen year old. At the age of eighteen he left the Army to join Canada’s Royal Flying Corps towards the end of the First World War. After returning from France, he went back to Frobisher and worked for a while in his father’s store. In 1925, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. Bill was stationed at Vancouver, Trenton, Camp Borden and Ottawa during which time he established himself as the most colourful acrobatic pilot in Canada. He was a Wing Commander of Canada’s ace flying team Siskin aircraft pilots. He held honorary membership with Canada’s Golden Hawks flying team. He rose to the rank of Wing Commander and was commanding officer at the large air force base at Rockcliff near Ottawa. He married Margaret Isobel McLean from Montreal on October 17, 1931 and they had two daughters: Martha Adaline and Margot Ann. Bill passed away on December 18, 1969 in Ottawa and is buried in Cobourg, Ontario. RIEDERER, Frederick WWII Frederick was born in 1923 in Lake Lenore, SK. He joined the Army in August of 1943 and served in England and Canada until his discharge in August of 1946. He married on August 6, 1952 and raised three children. He was a very loving husband and father and active in the community. Frederick passed away on May 2, 1984 from a massive heart attack at the age of 61.
