The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 245 RAMSAY, William Beattie WWI William was born in Lumsden, Saskatchewan on August 11, 1895. After serving three years as a pilot overseas during the First World War, William returned to captain the University of Toronto Blues hockey team. They were university and Ontario Hockey Association champions in 1920, and then in 1921, Allan Cup winners. William joined the Toronto Granites which won the Allan Cup in 1923. They were selected to represent Canada at the 1924 Winter Olympics at Chamonix, France. Outscoring their opponents 88 to 3, they won Canada’s first hockey Olympic gold medal. After playing one year with the Toronto Maple Leafs (1927/28), William went on to become a successful coach. He first coached at Princeton University, followed by successful stints with the Prince Albert Mintos, the Regina Aces, and the Regina Pats. RAYNER, Claude “Chuck” WWII Chuck was born and raised in Sutherland, Saskatchewan on November 8, 1920 and played his minor hockey there. In the 1933 to 1934 hockey season, the Sutherland Midget team, with Chuck in goal, won the Saskatchewan championships. His junior career began in Saskatoon and while playing with the Saskatoon Wesleys, Chuck won his second Saskatchewan championship. Chuck served with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1942 to 1945. REAVIE, Jean WWII Jean was born on March 18, 1914 in Rocanville, SK. She enlisted with the Army on February 21, 1944 and served in Canada and at the Plastic Surgery Hospital in Basingstoke, England until her discharge on September 1, 1945. She married and moved to Vancouver and they raised two children. She remarried and moved to Toronto. Jean is deceased.
