The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 227 OLSON, Calvin Calvin is recorded as having served and lived in the area of Frobisher, Saskatchewan. OPPERMAN, Robert Adolphus WWII Robert was born on July 3, 1924. He was the oldest of eight children born to Norman and Georgina Opperman. He enlisted into the Army during the Second World War and took his training at Camp Borden, Ontario. He did not make it overseas as the war ended just as his training was complete. Robert was a driving instructor in the Military. He wemt back to Regina, SK where he worked as a City Policeman. There he married a girl named Martha. They moved to Calgary where Robert drove trucks. Later, he and Martha separated and Robert married Betty. They had one daughter, Lisa who grew up and joined the Forces. Robert and Betty separated and his third wife was named Coby. After Coby passed away, Robert moved back to Saskatchewan where he worked as a helper doing back hoe work. In his older years, Robert lived in both the Paradise Hill Care Home and the St. Walburg Lakeland Lodge. Eventually, Lisa moved her father to Edmonton where she is living. Robert passed away there on May 16, 2015. He is buried in the Mervin, Saskatchewan Cemetery. Robert was a Legion Member in Calgary, Kelowna, and Strathmore, Alberta. OPPERMAN, Walter Melvin WWII Walter was born on September 27, 1925 in Daysville, Saskatchewan. He was the second child of Norman and Georgina Opperman. He enlisted into the Canadian Army and took his training at Camp Borden, Ontario. Just when he was about to be deployed overseas, the Second World War ended and so he never left Canada. Walter went back to Saskatchewan and worked for Ashdown Hardware. Eventually, he married Evelyn Jorgenson from Livelong, SK. They had no children. After their marriage, the couple moved back to Mervin. He worked for many years as a painter for Nelson Lumber of Lloydminster, Alberta. He also did painting on his own. He loved doing wood working and did quite a lot of this. He liked gardening and always has lots of flowers in his yard. At Christmas time his yard was beautifully lit up. Walter was also a good cook, loved picking berries and making pies. He worked as the Mervin Cemetery caretaker for many years. Walter presently lived in Lakeland Lodge in St. Walburg, SK.
