The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 209 MILLER (PORSNUK), Teresa Lorraine PEACETIME Teresa was born in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan in 1968. She joined the Air Force serving as an Administrative Clerk. She was posted during Peacetime to CFB Winnipeg and CFB Gagetown from 1988 to 1997. She had temporary duty with NORAD in Colorado Spring in 1992. MILNE, William Johnstone (V.C.) WWI William was born in Cambusnethan, Scotland on December 21, 1892. He farmed near Moose Jaw. He enlisted in the Army on September 11, 1915 and served during the First World War with the 16th Battalion. Private Milne lost his life on April 9, 1917 during the Battle of Vimy Ridge. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for single-handedly capturing two enemy machine guns, saving the lives of many comrades. He is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial and Milne Channel in northeast Saskatchewan is named after him. The poem on page 401, entitled Vimy “The Legacy of Willie Milne”, was written about William’s heroic actions that undoubtedly saved the lives of many of his comrades. MITCHELMORE, Harold WWII Harold was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on July 3, 1922. He served his community of Saskatoon in the capacity of photo referee, track referee and timer or walk judge, at every level possible. He also served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1945. At the provincial and Western Canadian level, Harold officiated at numerous competitions, one being the Western Canada Summer Games. He also served on a variety of provincial sport-related boards. Harold worked as a timer or photo referee at national track and field competitions, as well as national junior football championships. International qualifications as a photo timer and photo referee allowed him to officiate at the 1976 Olympic Games, as well as other international competitions.
