The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 207 METZ, Nickolas “Nick” WWII Nick was born in Wilcox, Saskatchewan on February 16, 1914. During the fall of 1934, he went to the Toronto Maple Leafs. After a stint with a Syracuse farm team, he was back in Toronto for the play-offs. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1943 to 1945. In twelve seasons with the Leafs, between 1934 and 1948 (minus the WWII years), Nick scored 131 goals and 119 assists, playing centre and left wing. He played nine out of twelve years in Stanley Cup finals, and was a member of the winning Leafs in 1942, 1945, 1947, and 1948 (along with his brother, Don). Metz was also known as a curler, baseball, and lacrosse player. MICHENER, Lloyd Albert WWII Lloyd was born in Wilcox, Saskatchewan in 1917. He completed his schooling at Craik, SK. Lloyd was working as a postal clerk in Regina, SK. He enlisted in the Canadian Postal Corps in 1940. He served during the Second World War with the 3rd Division Postal Unit in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium and Holland and was discharged in 1946. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star and Defence Medal. In addition to the regular medals, Lloyd was awarded the Médaille de la Reconnaissance Française - Bronze by France. He returned to his duties with the Canada Post Office in Regina but eventually left to farm at Chelan, SK, where he married and had three children. The family relocated to farm near Craik and then, because of health issues, to Melfort, SK where he passed away in 1969. MILLER, David Dennis PEACETIME David was born in 1971 in Kipling, Saskatchewan. He enlisted Army and served as a Vehicle Technician during Peacetime with the Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He was posted to CFB Winnipeg and later to CFB Gagetown with 2RCR from 1989 to 1997. He completed a United Nations tour in Haiti in 1995.
