The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 199 McLEOD, Angus Tayler WWII Angus was born in Mullingar, Saskatchewan in 1922. He served in the Air Force as a wireless operator during the Second World War from 1941 until the end of the war. Angus passed away in 1980. McLEOD, Ian Cowell WWII Ian was born in Mullingar, Saskatchewan in 1919. He served during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a rear gunner until the end of the war. McNAUGHTON, Andrew George Latta WWI & WWII Andrew was born on February 25, 1887 in Moosomin, Saskatchewan. He joined the Canadian militia in 1909. He took the 4th Battery overseas with the outbreak of the First World War in 1914. While there he helped make advances in the science of artillery creating a new target detection technique and was wounded twice. In March 1916 he was promoted to Lt. Col and took command of the 11 Brigade RCA. In early 1917 he was appointed the Counter Battery Staff Officer. On the day before the armistice he was promoted to Brigadier-General and appointed General Officer Commanding Canadian Corps Heavy Artillery. In 1920, Andrew joined the regular army and in 1922 was promoted to Deputy Chief of the General Staff and Chief of the General Staff in 1929. He also was the main driving force behind the relief camps of the 1930s. Andrew commanded the 1st Canadian Infantry during the early part of the Second World War. He commanded VII Corps from July to December 1940 when it was renamed the Canadian Corps. By the end of the war he reached the rank of General. After the war, Andrew chaired the UN Atomic Energy Commission from 1946 to 1948, served as Canada’s Ambassador to the United Nations from 1948 to 1949 and chaired the Canadian Section of the International Joint Commission from 1950 to 1962. His decorations include: Order of the Companions of Honour, Companion of the Order of the Bath, Companion of the Order of St. Micheal and St. George, the Distinguished Service Order and the Canadian Forces Decoration. Andrew passed away on July 11, 1966.
