The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 191 MADDIA, John “Jack” WWII Jack, who was born in Moose Jaw, SK on January 7, 1925 and has been a resident of Indian Head since 1973, has a long outstanding hockey career in the Qu’Appelle Valley area. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1943 to 1945. After retiring from active participation in hockey because of an ankle injury, Jack began his long association with the administration of the sport by refereeing and coaching. Maddia began serving on the Saskatchewan Amateur Hockey Association (now Saskatchewan Hockey Association – S.H.A.) Board of Directors in 1976. He continued in this capacity until 1988. During that time, Jack coached the Indian Head Midget Team to the Provincial “B” Championship and served as vice-president of the Southern Midget “AAA” League. Jack served as a mentor to many coaches and administrators in the area. This included arranging Junior try-outs for many of the young local hockey players. MANN, Norman Alexander WWI Norman was born on July 5, 1896 in Cobourg, Ontario. His father was called George. He moved to Alameda District to work in 1920. Norman served with the 1st Depot Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment during the First World War. He met and married Lillian Truscott and had three children. Norman worked driving a cream truck and as a mail carrier. MAROTTE, Paul Paul was born on August 23, 1964 in Estevan to Richard and Ruth Conrad. He went to school in Estevan. He enlisted in the Air Force as an airframe tech mechanic in Regina on May 5, 1988 when he was 24 years old. He went to training in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia then to Borden, Ontario. He was posted to Cold Lake, Alberta. He was there for twenty some years and then posted to Winnipeg, Manitoba. His title is Master Warrant Officer.
