The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 187 LYNN, Victor “Vic” WWII Vic was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on January 26, 1925. His very interesting hockey story began in Saskatoon, where he had a short junior career with the Saskatoon Quakers that included a Memorial Cup appearance in 1942. Vic had a one game trial with the NHL’s New York Rangers the next year, but finished the season with the New York Rovers of the Eastern Hockey League. Vic’s next stop in the NHL was with the Detroit Red Wings, he spent two games with the Montreal Canadiens. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1943 to 1945. His NHL break came the next year (1946-1947) when he was picked up by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Vic was part of the famous “Kid Line” with the Leafs that saw him and his line mates, “Teeder” Kennedy and Howie Meeker, lead Toronto to three Stanley Cups. During his time with the Leafs, Vic was selected to play in NHL All-Star games in 1947, 1948, and 1949. Following his playing career, Vic joined the ranks of coaching and management spending many years with the Saskatoon Quakers of the Saskatchewan Senior Hockey League (SSHL). His efforts in these fields resulted in seven Saskatchewan championships, and four Western Canadian titles. MacDOUGALL, Allison Ivan “Mac” WWII Mac was born in Craven, Saskatchewan in 1920. He enlisted in the Army and served with the 14th Army Tank Regiment during the Second World War. He served from February 18, 1941 to April 23, 1946 with the Calgary Tanks first as Driver/Mechanic and then as a Gunner Operator. He fought in Belgium, Sicily, Italy and France, including the Dieppe Raid. He was discharged at the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. Mac passed away in 1983. MacFARLANE, Colin “Donald” WWII Donald was born in Viceroy, Saskatchewan on December 13, 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 14, 1943. He was stationed in Edmonton, Regina, Rivers, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, Port Hardy, Penhold, Lethbridge, Halifax and Swift Current during the Second World War. He was released from Depot in Regina on March 29, 1946. He farmed near Viceroy and raised Arabian horses. He took Pilot training in Moose Jaw and had an Aerial Crop Spraying Business. He did a lot of volunteer work with sports and baseball in his community. He married and had two daughters. He was a member of the Viceroy and Assiniboia Legions for many years. Donald passed away on February 7, 2016.
