The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 181 LEHMAN, Thomas Mitchell WWII Thomas was born in Lorenzo, Saskatchewan on June 7, 1918. He enlisted in the Army on December 18, 1942 and served with the Lake Superior Regiment during the Second World War. Thomas was killed in the Battle of Rhineland on March 2, 1945 and is buried at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in Gelderland, Netherlands. LEICESTER, John WWII John was born in Tompkins, Saskatchewan on April 18, 1924. At age seventeen, he captured the Saskatchewan Junior Tennis Singles title. He won the Saskatchewan championship seven times in singles, nine times in doubles, and six times in mixed doubles, and has been Western Canadian and Canadian Doubles Champion. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1942 to 1945. In 1980, Leicester was a Canadian semi-finalist in singles and a finalist in doubles in the 55-year and over category, as well as being chosen as a team member for the Austria Cup. John has given back to the sport of tennis by teaching the game to others and serving in numerous administrative capacities. LEMOND, George Alexander “Alex” WWII Alex was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 1920. He took basic training in Regina in 1941 then with the 7th Medium Artillery and they went overseas in 1942. He served in England, France, Belgium, Germany and Holland during the Second World War. He returned home to Assiniboia in December 1945 and was discharged in Regina in February 1946 with the rank of private. He bought the family farm in Willows. He farmed until 1984 and they lived in Assiniboia. He is married with one son and two stepdaughters. Alex has been a member of the Assiniboia Legion Branch for 72 years.
