The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 177 LAMB, Roy Ferris WWII Roy was born on the family farm north of Assiniboia in 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force when he was nineteen and trained as an air-frame mechanic. He was posted to St. Thomas, ON; Mossbank, SK; Chicoutimi, QC; Greenwood, NS; Truro, NS and Debert, NS from 1939 to 1945 and served with Eastern Air Command during the Second World War. After the war ended, he returned to Assiniboia to farm with his wife Marjorie and raised four children. He was a member of Assiniboia Legion Branch 17 for many years. Roy passed away in 1981. LAMB, Thomas Alexander WWI Thomas was born on September 2, 1892 in Watford, Lambton County, Ontario. Working as a printer with the News-Record, he enlisted in Regina, SK on October 24, 1914. He served with the 28th Battalion, 250th Tunnelling Company during the First World War. He received the Plaque and Scroll and the Memorial Cross. He was killed in action on the eve of the Battle of Sanctuary Wood near Ypres on May 31, 1916. He is buried at Bedford House Cemetery in Belgium. LANDA, Sam Sam was born on December 31, 1913 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He served with the Canadian Air/Army Cadets from 1942 to 1946. The Manitoba Medical College fine-tuned Sam’s talents. He became the team doctor for the Saskatoon Hilltops in 1947, and held the position for over 38 years. Sam attended winter games, indoor games and the 1972 Munich Olympic Games as a medical team member. He chaired the committee responsible for the ParticipAction Saskatoon Society; set up international exchange programs; and was a director of the Bob Adams Foundation. Honours bestowed on him include Kinsmen Sportsman of the Year (1975), Queen’s Jubilee Medal (1976) and a Member of the Order of Canada (1976), and inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame (1986).
