The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 167 KELL, William Leslie WWII William was born in Price Albert, Saskatchewan on December 26, 1916. In January 1941 he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was a Flight Lieutenant flying in a Whitley bomber as a tail gunner. The plane was shot down and his crew were captured. He was a POW in Stalag Luft III POW camp. At this camp was where the great escape took place. The account of his time in the camp was published being called “A Wartime Log” by William Leslie Kell. It includes his part in tunneling for the Great Escape. William passed away on August 11, 2017. KENNEDY, Elmer Earl WWII Elmer was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan on April 23, 1918. He enlisted in the Air Force in Saskatoon and served with No 419 Squadron. He joined as a Flying Officer and proceeded overseas. He served in Kirchallee-Mitte, Germany during the Second World War. His Halifax aircraft of which he was navigator was shot down during a raid on Dortmund, Germany on May 5, 1942. He is buried at Reichsuald Forest War Cemetery near Kleve, Germany. KENNEDY, Ray Ray was the son of Elmer and Marie Kennedy. His siblings were Josephine, Logan, Audrey and Viola.
