The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 163 JOHNSON, Lloyd George WWII Lloyd was born in Hendon, Saskatchewan on June 12, 1919. He was farming in Hendon when he was called up for national resources mobilization act service in Regina, SK on February 19, 1942. He served with the Kings Own Rifles during the Second World War. He died of tuberculosis in a Saskatoon Sanitarium on April 29, 1946. He is buried at Scandia Cemetery by Henson, SK. JOHNSON, William George Wesley WWII William was born in Melville, Saskatchewan on May 12, 1924. He had originally attempted to join the Royal Canadian Air Force in September 1941 but was refused due to his age. He worked as a banker in Cut Knife, SK until he attempted to successfully enlist on May 13, 1942 in Saskatoon. He served with the No. 49 Squadron during the Second World War. He was a Flying Officer on a Lancaster aircraft which was lost on a raid of Brunswick on May 23, 1944. He is buried at Becklingen War Cemetery near Soltau, Germany. JUCKES, Gordon WWII Gordon was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan on June 20, 1914. He served in the Royal Canadian Artillery from 1940 to 1946. He played minor hockey in Melville and, in 1946, became the president of the Melville Millionaires. Gordon was awarded the International Ice Hockey Federation Diploma of Honour in 1967; the CAHA Meritorious Award in 1976; life membership in the SAHA; induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979; and received the Order of Canada in 1980. After his death in 1994, the CAHA established the Gordon Juckes Memorial Trust, the proceeds of which go to a worthy team or individual each year.
