The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 161 JESSIE, Henry WWI & WWII Henry was born on March 7, 1894 in Wyandotte, Michigan. In the spring of 1899, his father, Gus, and family arrived at Curt Hill, Assiniboia District of Canada, which was later known as Wordsworth, Saskatchewan. On November 24, 1920, Henry was united in marriage to Martha Krenz and to this union was born five daughters and one son: Myrtle, Muriel, Marjorie, Joyce, Gloria and Dallas. In about 1929, Henry moved to Frobisher and went into partnership with Frank Hannah in a garage. However, the effects of the depression were felt and many business adventures failed. He was forced to do many varied occupations and became jack-of-all-trades. As with so many others at that period of time in history, his life was disrupted when the Second World War broke out and he enlisted in the Veterans Guard of Canada. Henry served most of these years guarding the Japanese, who were taken inland from the coastal regions for security reasons, at Trail, BC and Lethbridge, AB. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse celebrated their Golden Anniversary in November 1970 and on February 14, 1971, Henry passed away. He had also served in the First World War. JOHNSON, George WWI George was born in Kelso, Scotland on February 14, 1892. Farming at Disley, Saskatchewan, he travelled to Saskatoon to enlist on December 16, 1915. He served with the 96th Highlanders and the 47th Battalion during the First World War. He was killed in action on April 13, 1917 at Vimy Ridge and is buried near the Vimy Memorial at Canadian No. 2 Cemetery. JOHNSON, George Herman WWI George was born on June 27, 1891 in Willow Lake, South Dakota. He was farming in Halbrite, Saskatchewan when he enlisted in the Army on August 17, 1915 in Regina, SK. He was awarded the Memorial Cross serving with the Canadian Engineers/20th Border Horse during the First World War. He was a Sapper with the 1st Tunnelling Company when he was killed in action at Passchendaele on October 27, 1917. He is buried at La Clytte Military Cemetery by Ieper, Belgium.
