The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 159 JAMES, Cyril John WWII Cyril was born on a farm south of Waldeck, Saskatchewan in 1916. He worked in Ontario and Quebec before joining the Canadian Active Service Force in Montreal in 1940. He was sent to the 66/81 Field Battery with the Royal Canadian Artillery at Petawawa, ON during the Second World War. In 1941, he went to Aldershot, England with the 14th Field Regiment. L/Sgt. James landed at Bay de Sur, France. He was a qualified Signaller, laying telephone lines. He was captured for a day but the Germans were lost and they surrendered. He was Mentioned in Dispatches and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Cyril was a Life Member of the Legion in Edmonton, Alberta before he passed away in 1989. JAMES, Patrick Dennis WWII Patrick was born at Waldeck, Saskatchewan in 1927. He joined the Air Force in 1949 and trained as an aero-engine technician. He spent four years in Germany at No. 3 Wing Zweibrucken, working on the turbo jet engines of the C. F. 104 Super Starfighters during the Second World War. He received the Canadian Forces Decoration. When he returned to Canada, he was posted to Cold Lake, Alberta. Corporal James spent 25 years in the Air Force. He belonged to Centennial Legion Branch 285 of The Royal Canadian Legion in Calgary, Alberta. Patrick passed away in 2000. JAMES, Ralph Llewellyn WWII Ralph was born at Waldeck, Saskatchewan in 1922. He joined the Army at the age of eighteen and did training in Regina and Maple Creek. He was sent to England, joining the Fort Garry Horse Unit driving tanks. He saw action in Germany and Holland during the Second World War. After the war, he stayed in Holland, helping to liberate the country. He drove convoys of trucks to Czechoslovakia. He returned home in 1946, bought land and farmed for the rest of his life with his wife and three children. Ralph passed away in 2011.
