The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 155 INGRAM, Lewis Delmar Ethelbert WWII Lewis was born in Frobisher, Saskatchewan in 1920. He enlisted in the Army and served in England, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, France and Sicily during the Second World War. He was a member of the Kelvington Legion for 45 years. Lewis passed away in 1993. ION, Edward Ben Simpson WWI Edward was born in Kendal, England on June 19, 1882. He had lived in Canada for nine years working various jobs, the most recent before enlistment was at the News-Record in Lumsden, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army on August 13, 1915 in Regina. He served with the 46th Battalion and the 2nd Battalion during the First World War. Edward passed away on July 22, 1916 and is buried at the Ridge Wood Military Cemetery in West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. IRVIN, Dickson “Dick” Sr. WWII Dick was born on July 19, 1892 in Limestone Ridge, Ontario. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces and Canadian Expeditionary Force from 1917 to 1919. He played the game of hockey with such style and power that sports writers praised him as the “World’s Greatest Amateur Hockey Player”. As an amateur he played with the Winnipeg Monarchs and the Strathconas, the Regina Victorias and the Capitals. Following his amateur career, Irvin joined the Portland Rosebuds, the team that in 1925 became the Chicago Blackhawks. In his second season with the Blackhawks, he suffered a career-ending injury. Over the next 26 years, from 1929 until 1955, Dick Irvin coached the Chicago Blackhawks for two years; the Toronto Maple Leafs for nine years; and the Montreal Canadiens for fifteen years. His teams won seven league championships and four Stanley Cups, missing the playoffs only twice.
