The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 147 HOLMES, John Allan “Jack” WWII Jack was born in Frobisher, Saskatchewan on February 27, 1916. Enlisting in Winnipeg on March 6, 1943, he listed his occupation as a farmer. Serving with the Seaforth Highlanders as a sniper during the Second World War, he was killed in action during the advance on Rimini on September 17, 1944. He is buried at Coriano Ridge War Cemetery near Riccione, Italy. HOLOWATY, William WWII William was born in Inwood, Manitoba in 1904. He enlisted in the Army and served with #12 District Depot at the rank of Private from May 1942 to March 1946. He served in Canada and in the United Kingdom during the Second World War. He was awarded the War Service Badge “General Service Class” and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp issued in Ottawa on March 13, 1946. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Moosomin, SK for eighteen years. William passed away in 1964. HOUSEMAN, Ralph Orville WWII Ralph was born on December 9, 1920 in Mondovi, Wisconsin, USA at his grandparents’ home. He went with his parents back to their home in Shackleton, Saskatchewan, where he attended a one-room schoolhouse. Ralph helped on the family farm until he moved to Regina to work at various jobs. He enlisted at #12 District Depot in May 1942. He married in Shackleton in March 1943 and was shipped overseas later that year. He served in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Central Mediterranean area during the Second World War. His medals include the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defense Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was discharged on March 13, 1946 in Regina. After the war, he joined the Saskatchewan Civil Service, where he held many positions until his retirement in 1981. Ralph served in the Army Reserves throughout his life. He was Captain in Charge of the Regina Cadet Army Corp. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Regina Branch 1 for many years. He had one daughter and two sons. Ralph passed away in April 1987 and is buried in Regina.
