The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 139 HASSARD, Elwin “Bud” WWII Bud was born in 1916 and raised north of Frobisher to Fred and Edna (Snider). His siblings were: Muriel, Mary, Freda, Ruby and Rodger. Times were a bit rough; a cyclone took the house then two years later the house burned down, then another cyclone hit. When Bud turned sixteen, he went to work at M and S mines at Bienfait for the next five to six years during winters. In the summer he went to northern Saskatchewan where the crops were better. In 1936 he met Edna Callfas and she became his wife. They lived in Briquette plant until Bud joined the Army in Regina on September 6, 1939. He went overseas and returned six years later. Edna and oldest son, Lorne, lived in Regina. Upon his return from overseas, they farmed north of Frobisher. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star and the Defence Medal. After the war another son, Glen, was born. In 1947, he bought the old Frobisher Hotel with Charlie Poston. A daughter was born, Penny. He owned the hotel until 1956 and then operated Bud’s Meat Market until 1965. They lived in Victoria where Bud passed away in August 1993. HASSARD, Lorne PEACETIME Lorne was born in Frobisher, Saskatchewan on December 14, 1938 to Bus and Enda. He got his education in Frobisher. His siblings were Glen and Penny. Lorne and his mother lived in Regina for six years when his dad served in the Army. When he returned, they moved back to Frobisher. Lorne married Bea. He retired after 26 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. He spent thirteen years with Kingston Police Force as a part time sheriff and Court Services Officer for Frontenac County. They had three girls: Vickie, Sherri and Janie. HAZEN, John Logan WWII John was born in 1926. Private Hazen passed away in 1981 and is buried in Regina Beach Cemetery.
