The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 135 HANSON, George WWII George was born on May 5, 1919 in Torquay, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the South Saskatchewan Regiment during the Second World War. He joined the 14th Canadian Hussars, 8th Reconnaissance Regiment on February 8, 1941 and served in England, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He was discharged on November 9, 1945 with the rank of Corporal. After his discharge, George worked as a mechanic for Massey Harris dealership in Lake Alma until 1950 when he began farming. He married Mamie Anderson of Lake Alma on December 2, 1947 and together they raised nine children. He was a member of South Saskatchewan Legion Branch 306 in Oungre, SK. George passed away on May 23, 1976. HARESIGN, Sidney WWII Sidney was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on August 16, 1913 to Ernest and Alice May Haresign. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Perth Regiment Royal Canadian Infantry Corps in Europe during the Second World War. Private Haresign was killed in action in Italy on September 28, 1944 and is buried in Italy at the Cesena War Cemetery. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star and the War Medal. HARRISON, Stanley “Cap” WWI Stanley was born in Preston, England on March 24, 1886. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces and Canadian Expeditionary Force from 1916 to 1918. Saskatchewan’s most distinguished builder of the sport of thoroughbred racing, Stanley was recognized for his contributions as a breeder, trainer, writer and race official. He used his talent to capture the spirit of his thoroughbreds for the enjoyment of the countless followers of the equestrian arts. Stanley judged at horse shows throughout the west. He spent many years as Saskatchewan’s director of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society, and served as a steward at Assiniboia Downs in 1958. He was a founding director of the Prairie Thoroughbred Breeders Association.
