The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 123 GREEN, Ross WWII Ross was born on April 18, 1922 in North Battleford and enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy in April 1942. After weeks of training he was posted to HMCS Charlottetown II with the rank of Visual Signalman during the Second World War. He served in the Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, St. Lawrence Seaway, Irish Sea, English Channel, Mediterranean Sea, and the Straits of Gibraltar. Their duties were carrying ammunition to be off loaded to other ships, patrolling and escorting which placed them in a dangerous roll. His duties included the application of Morse code, sending and receiving light patterns and watches, as travel at night was done without lights visual to the enemy. Ross was honourably discharged in the fall of 1945 and received four war medals for his service. He is a past president of Battleford Legion Branch 9 and has a 38-year membership. GREYEYES, David David was born on Muskeg Lake Reserve, Saskatchewan on Decemeber 14, 1914. He was an outstanding soccer player and a three-time provincial All-Star selection. David played on the team in the 1937 match again Charleton Athletics, in 1938 against Islington Corinthians, and in 1949 against Newcastle United. He served in the Royal Canadian Air and Army Cadets. In 1942, David was a member of the Canadian Team that won the Overseas Army Championship. He also played with the team in Inter-Allied games. Upon returning to Saskatchewan, David formed and coached a soccer team, and was once more selected to the Saskatchewan All-Stars in 1949. GRIFFIN, James Ainsley WWII James was born in Yellowgrass, Saskatchewan on February 29, 1924. He enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Second World War. He was a navigator in a Lancaster Bomber. After the war, he obtained a law degree and practiced in Regina, SK. He retired in 2012. He enjoyed travelling, astronomy, farming, hunting, education and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. James passed away on August 27, 2017.
