The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 99 FOLKERTS, Henry WWII Henry was born in Leehass, Germany in 1922. Henry served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment during the Second World War. The Folkerts name was first heard in Frobisher in 1949. Henry was employed by the Canadian National Railroad there and when this became permanent he moved his family to Frobisher in 1950, his wife, Clara (Winters), daughters Beverley, Yvonne, Clara Ann (Tanny), and son John. They had previously resided in Wilmar, Saskatchewan. He was a member of the Frobisher Legion Branch 143. Henry was the town mayor, town policeman and volunteered with RCL and St. John’s Lutheran Church. Henry passed away in 1979. FORGAY, Arthur WWII Arthur was born to William and Gertrude Elsie Moynes in Lampman, Saskatchewan. In 1926, the family moved to Frobisher. His siblings were Ray and Lowry. Arthur took his schooling in Frobisher and graduated in 1943 and worked in the hardware store. He joined the Army in the Second World War and was posted to Montreal to take university training at McGill. He was given the tasks of training, mostly in light arms instruction. He was scheduled to go overseas to the Pacific War but that assignment was cancelled when the war ended in 1945. After his discharge from the Army, in 1946, he attended Normal School and then the University of Saskatchewan. Arthur taught in Gainsborough in 1949, Carnduff from 1950 to 1953, Estevan Collegiate in 1953 and was appointed principal in 1956 and remained in that position until he resigned in 1969. He married Beryl Gaff of British Columbia in 1953. He had four children, Ann, Faith, Jane and Margaret. Arthur passed away in Regina on September 11, 1997 and is buried at the Riverside Cemetery. FORGAY, William Yendall “Bill” WWI Bill was born on December 11, 1890 in Lansford, Pennsylvania. He had travelled to Ohio and Nebraska but a good left arm and an interest in baseball were the means of the trip to the Canadian prairie. On May 30, 1914, he arrived in Lampman. In 1937, he went to Allantown, PA to join the US Navy and served on the U.S.S. Ohio in the First World War. After his discharge in 1919 as an Engineerman 1st Class, he returned to Lampman. In 1923 he married Gertrude Elsie Moynes. They moved to Frobisher with their baby son Arthur in 1926 and they bought the hardware store. Their living quarters were above the store. Two more sons were born, Ray and Lowry. On November 1, 1956, the store closed but they remained in the home until May 26, 1957. The Forgay family were community minded, Bill in sports especially baseball. The years in Frobisher were happy but were not without difficulties, drought and depression. Bill passed away in 1982 in Regina at the age of 91. His grave is in the Memorial Gardens in Regina. He was a member of Legion Branch 143 in Frobisher.
