The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 97 BIRT, Cyrus William WWII Cyrus was born in 1918 in Foam Lake, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was a gun armourer for Squadron 135. He was later stationed at Fort and Foundry Aircraft Plant. They manufactured Curtiss Helldiver Aircraft for the U.S. Navy to be used against the Japanese fleet. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Foam Lake Branch 16 for forty years. Cyrus passed away in 2004. BJORK, Carl Albin WWII Carl was born on April 3, 1924. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada until his discharge. Carl passed away on June 30, 1991. BLONDEAU, George William “Bill” WWII Bill was born on November 5, 1901 in Estevan, SK, the youngest of fourteen children born to Louison and Mary (Robillard) Blondeau of Estevan. Bill enlisted in the Canadian Army on January 30, 1941 and served four years in England, Italy, France, Belgium and Germany. He was the recipient of the Italy, France and Germany Stars, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-1945. Bill married Helen Catherine Boyer, daughter of Tom and Mary (Davis) Boyer of Macoun, on July 31, 1941. Upon his discharge on December 8, 1945, the couple farmed south of Macoun. They moved to Macoun when they sold the farm and later moved to Midale. Bill and Helen did not have any children but enjoyed summer visits on the farm from their many nieces and nephews. Bill was a great baseball fan and player. He coached the Midale team one year and umpired games in Macoun and Mainprize Park. He also enjoyed reading true crime stories in his quieter times. Bill died in 1978 at the age of 76 years.
