The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 91 BARNSTABLE, Orville Orville was born on January 8, 1924 in Macoun, SK. He was one of the seven children of Roy and Susan Barnstable who operated a farm south of Macoun. In 1949, Orville married Ethel Janke of Beaubier, SK and they rented the Barnstable family farm. Later, he and Ethel moved to Moose Jaw, SK where both became teachers, eventually moving to Medicine Hat, Alberta. BARTRAM, Howard WWII Howard was born in 1925 in Regina, SK. He enlisted with the Army in 1943 and did his basic training in Nova Scotia. He was then shipped to Alder Shot, England for more training and then landed in Kelly, France for the 2nd Invasion of Dieppe. He spent some of the last years of the war being a driver of a Jeep for a Colonel of the Army. After V-Day he spent a year in occupied Germany. After the war he was very active in community affairs and the Lions Club. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Balcarres Branch 84 for forty years. Howard passed away on January 19, 2008. BEATTY, Claire Aubrey WWII Claire was born in 1916 in Carlyle, SK. He enlisted in the Army with the South Saskatchewan Regiment on April 24, 1940. He received his basic training at Weyburn, Shilo and Toronto. He went overseas in December 1940, taking training at various camps in England. He served in Active Duty including the Battle of Dieppe, landing at Pourville; also at Normandy and was wounded at Falaise, France in August 1943. He returned to England and served as a Flame Thrower Instructor and received the rank of Sergeant. He was discharged on August 1, 1945. Claire passed away in 1997.
