The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 89 BARKER, Charles Edward KOREA & PEACETIME Charles was born on November 30, 1932 in Snowden, SK. He signed up for the Regular Force in 1951 and served for 28 years in Canada, the Korean War, twice with 3 Mech Commando in the Airborne Regiment in Germany, and twice with the UN in Cypress. He received the following Medals: Korea Medal, Voluntary Service Medal (Korea), Special Service Medal (NATO) Bar, Peacekeepers Medal, UN Service Medal (Korea), UN Force in Cypress, and Canadian Decoration with Bar. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Nutana Branch. Charles passed away on February 27, 2001. BARKER, Walter Charles Allan WWII Walter was born in 1907 in Norfolk, England. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on March 23, 1943 in Regina, SK. He did his training in Sylvan Lake, west of Red Deer, AB to be an ambulance driver. He was then transferred to Debert, NS. He was unable to meet the required Military Physical Standards because his hearing was poor, so he was discharged from the Army on January 4, 1944. He went home to his wife and family in Snowden, SK and farmed until 1973 when he retired to Nipawin, SK. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for twenty-eight years. Walter passed away on June 13, 1994. BARKMAN, Albert WWII Albert was born on November 28, 1911 in Steinbach, Manitoba. He enlisted with the Army on July 18, 1940 in Victoria, British Columbia. He served overseas in England and Italy with the “B” Company, Westminster Regiment PPCLI. He was wounded in action in Italy just three months before the end of the war. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lemberg Branch 69. Albert passed away on September 21, 2003.
