The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 71 ANDERSON, Albert Elwin WWII Albert was born in 1914 in Leroy, SK. He is the eldest son of Alma and Charles Anderson. He worked on several farms before enlisting with the Army in the Tank Corps. He trained recruits to drive trucks, tanks, etc., at Camp Borden in Ontario. After the war he farmed briefly and then worked at the Silver Head mines in Trail, BC for many years. His hobbies were photography and collecting pocketknives. Albert passed away in 2001. ANDERSON, Carl Gustave WWII Carl was born on June 3, 1913 in Hitchcock, SK to Bengt and Esther Anderson. He was the third child in a family of six. Bengt and Ester had immigrated from Sweden and were homesteaders in the Hitchcock area. Carl worked on farms and also as a coal miner in the area before he enlisted in the RCAF. Prior to his discharge from the Air Force, he married Mary Martin and they settled in Winnipeg. Carl worked for the Greater Winnipeg Transit Commission for thirty-four years as a bus mechanic and was a supervisor at the time of his retirement. Carl and Mary had three daughters: Janice, Colleen and Heather. He was an active member of Ness Avenue Baptist Church for many years. At the time of his death on September 16, 1993, he had five grandchildren. Carl passed away on his and Mary’s 49th wedding anniversary in 1993. ANDERSON, Omar Carl WWII Carl was born in 1919 in Leroy, SK. He worked as a farm laborer until he joined the Regina Light Infantry in Regina. He spent a long time in England before being sent to Holland during the German Occupation. When he returned to Canada he farmed briefly before working at the Silver Head mines in Trail, BC. He also worked in the Ontario woods, on the Hudson Hope Dam, Fort St. John, BC, and on oilrigs in Alberta. He became a carpenter and built many houses and renovated buildings. He retired to the original farm and developed a large garden and orchard. Omar passed away in 2007.
