The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 69 ADAMSON, John Bernard “Jack” WWI Jack was born in East London, Peckham, United Kingdom in 1891 to Thomas Adamson and Alice Sandall, who homesteaded in Leslie, SK in 1910. Jack enlisted in the Army in Yorkton, SK in 1916 and served with the 188th Battalion C.E.F. during the First World War. He was later transferred to the 46th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (SK Regiment). He was awarded the Military Medal for his actions on the night of August 24-25, 1917 when he brought in wounded men under heavy enemy fire. He was given the Bar to that medal for his conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, when on October 26, 1917 he took charge of an advance post during the consolidation of the new line, which resulted in all company N.C.O.’s becoming casualties. He was promoted to Corporal on February 2, 1918 and to Apptd L. Sgt on September 23, 1918. Jack was killed in action in France during an assault on Canal du Nord in 1918, and is buried in the Fourth Division Cemetery Inchy-EnSectors, Triangle Cemetery, Inchy-En-Artois, Pas de Calais, France. ADAMSON, Richard Henry “Dick” WWI Richard was born in Croyden, England to Thomas Adamson and Alice Sandall. On August 15, 1915, Richard volunteered at Carnduff, SK for the CEF, although attestation papers show Sewell, MB. He served with the 45th Battalion in Canada, Britain and France during the First World War. He served until demobilization on April 3, 1919 and received the British War Medal and Victory Medal. His war service is recorded in his book “All For Nothing” available from Canadian National Archives. On April 4, 1919, all Veterans of the old 45th Battalion were offered keys to the city, then they continued on to Oxbow, SK. An old Colonel hired him for Manitoba Provincial Police as undercover agent. He served until the night he accompanied the regular detective staff on a raid to capture Chas Buller. Buller opened up with two automatic guns and slayed many of the detectives. Richard passed away on June 12, 1996. ALLEN, Harold Gordon WWII Harold was born in 1917 in Willow Bunch, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with the 49th and the 617th Squadron “The Dam Busters”. He flew 47 missions on Lancaster Bombers during the war. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Kelvington Branch for thirty years. Harold passed away in 2003.
